GUIDES

What does a website cost in Switzerland?

Ben Schmidt, Owner of Flowrenix · Updated:

Short answer

A website in Switzerland costs as much as its scope, features and content require: a presence with a few pages is considerably cheaper than a website with online booking, several languages and data migration. A reliable figure only exists once the scope is defined; that is why I list my own guide values below and explain how a written capped price limits the amount.

Why there is no flat answer

Two websites that look similar from the outside can mean very different amounts of work. One shows five pages of text and a contact form. The other takes bookings, checks free slots, sends confirmations and is maintained in two languages. Both are called a website, yet weeks of work separate the two projects.

Anyone searching online for prices therefore finds ranges that are far apart. They simply describe different things. Instead of another range without context, I describe here which factors actually drive the effort. With this list you can assess any quote, including one that does not come from me.

The cost drivers at a glance

In my projects it is always the same factors that determine the price. None of them is a design detail.

Scope

How many pages are needed, and how in-depth is the text? A home page with three subpages is different from a site with its own page for every service, every location and every common question.

Features

A contact form is set up quickly. Booking with availability, deadlines and confirmations, a shop with payment and shipping, or a customer account are systems of their own behind the website and often make up the largest share of the effort.

Content

Are texts and images ready, or do they still need to be created? In many projects the bottleneck is not the build but the content.

Multiple languages

Every additional language means translated text, separate addresses and maintenance that has to run in parallel for years.

Legal texts

An imprint and a privacy notice under the Swiss Data Protection Act are customary or required on most websites, terms and conditions where offers are sold or booked. The texts have to match what the website actually does, such as which services are embedded and which data a form collects.

Data migration

Should the content of an old website be carried over, or an inventory such as vehicles, products or course data from another program? Whether this works via an export or has to be entered by hand changes the effort considerably.

Ongoing costs

Hosting, domain and support are due every month or every year after launch. They belong in every price you compare.

Booking and shops change the price the most

The biggest jump in price comes when a website no longer just informs but takes something in. Booking has to know which slots are free, what lead time applies and what happens on cancellation. A shop needs payment, an order confirmation and a way for the order to reach you.

This pays off if your customers currently call or message you to arrange an appointment. If, on the other hand, you only need five pages of text, a website builder is cheaper, and I tell you so in the first call. How I build a website with booking is described on the page Websites with booking.

What you pay on an ongoing basis after launch

Hosting and domain are third-party costs. I set them up directly with the provider in your name and with your own payment method, so you can switch at any time.

Then there is support: updates, small changes and checking that everything runs. With me it can be cancelled monthly, and in your client area you can see which minutes went into which work.

If an AI assistant runs on the website, model costs are added. I list these separately so you can see what operation costs.

My guide values

So that you know the order of magnitude before we talk, here are my starting values. They are not package prices and not a market average, but the lower limits of my own offers.

The capped price: an upper limit instead of an estimate

What is binding with me is not the guide value but the capped price in the quote. It is an upper limit for your project, in writing, before I start. You do not pay more. If less effort is needed, you pay less, because I bill what was actually done.

Change orders only happen if you change the scope, and even then in writing with an amount beforehand. For this to work, the scope has to be clear before the start. That is why the list of deliverables is part of the quote. Why I work this way and do not quote a fixed price is explained on the page Pricing.

How to get a reliable figure

The clearer these points are before the first call, the more precise the quote. Not everything has to be settled; we clarify the open points together.

  • What should visitors be able to do on the website: call, enquire, book or order?
  • Which pages do you need, and in which languages?
  • Are texts and images ready, or should they be created?
  • Is there an existing website or an inventory that should be carried over?
  • Which programs do you use today, for example for appointments or invoices?

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Less than a website with booking, because no processes are built behind it. If you only need a few pages of text without any features, a website builder is often the cheaper solution, and I tell you that openly in the first call.

Because booking is a system of its own: free slots, lead times, cancellation rules, confirmations and reminders. In many projects this part makes up the largest share of the effort and afterwards saves you calls and messages.

Hosting and domain are third-party costs that run directly in your name. Support can be cancelled monthly and has no minimum term.

A written upper limit for your project that is fixed before the start. You do not pay more, but you pay less if less effort is needed. Change orders only happen if the scope changes, in writing and with an amount beforehand.
